City Wild

The image represents a timeless perspective that harks back 400 years to a land named Mannahatta, characterized by hills, canals, and a diverse range of species. However, in the early 19th century, a new order emerged that flattened the landscape into a grid framework, setting the stage for the "Great Acceleration," an era in which human activity became the primary influence on global ecology. Our vision for New York City's future retains the existing city topography while incorporating a nostalgic layer of greenery, offering endless possibilities. In this rendering of Community Board M-03, building heights are flipped to the adjacent street grid, and city blocks become a haven for nature to thrive.
